While ‘The Kerala Story’ has collected around Rs 150 crore in 12 days at the Indian box office, it is finally releasing in the UK as well. In recent days, despite the houseful show, its screening on foreign soil was cancelled. The reason was that the British Censor Board had not given a release certificate to the film. Kerala Story directed by Sudipto Sen was earlier scheduled to release in the UK on 12 May. But the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) refused to give it a certificate. But now the director himself has informed via tweet that it will be released soon on English soil.
‘The Kerala Story’ director Sudipto Sen has said on Twitter that his Indian blockbuster film is all set to release in the UK. He tweeted, ‘Congratulations Great Britain. Aap Zete Terrorism Haar Gaya Hai. Your response will be awaited. Oh… now the British will see the greatest revolution against terrorism… #TheKeralaStory’
This tweet of Sudipto Sen has also been retweeted by Adah Sharma, who played the lead role in the film. He wrote, ‘Congratulations to all of you! Meet in the UK #TheKeralaStory’
Theater owners in Britain had to cancel shows
In the UK, Kerala Story is distributed by 24 SEVEN FLIX4U. Recently, due to non-clearance from the British Censor Board, the distributor appealed to all theater owners to cancel the screenings of the film.
‘The Kerala Story’ is banned in West Bengal
There is a heated atmosphere in India’s political parties and many religious organizations regarding ‘The Kerala Story’. Protesting politicians, state governments claim that the film is not based on facts and promotes hatred against the Muslim community. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has banned the film in the state. Movie shows in theaters were canceled due to lack of audience in Tamil Nadu too. While the Chief Minister of Kerala is constantly saying that this film has been made with the mindset of spoiling the image of the state.
However, Ada Sharma’s film is performing well at the box office amid all the controversies and court cases. Made in a budget of just 15 crores, this film has turned out to be a blockbuster. Ada Sharma has earlier targeted those who opposed the film. He said, ‘Defaming my honesty, making fun of threats, banning our teaser, banning the film in some states, smear campaign… But you viewers have given #TheKeralaStory no-made a forest.’ Very good! You, the audience, win. You won and now we are going international.
