The Supreme Court has slammed the ED for not creating an atmosphere of false fear by exaggerating the Chhattisgarh liquor scam. In this regard, the Chhattisgarh government complained in the Supreme Court that Rs. ED is trying to implicate state CM Bhupesh Baghel by registering a money laundering case in the alleged Rs 2000 crore liquor scam. ED is firing in the wrong direction in this case. On behalf of the state government, Supreme Court Justice S.K. A bench of Justices Kaul and A Amanullah noted that some State Excise officials and their families have been given false threats of arrest by the ED and attempts are being made to implicate the Chief Minister. Officers do not want to work in this department due to fear. Kapil Sibal placed the above arguments before the Bench on behalf of the Government of Chhattisgarh.

The ED has claimed a regular probe into the scam

Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju, on behalf of the ED, argued that the ED was investigating the scam as usual in the state. After this, the bench said, in such a situation, when you do such an act, the real motive also comes into question. Don’t create an atmosphere of fear. Last month, in a first in the country, the Chhattisgarh government challenged some provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). There were complaints that false cases were being filed by the ED to harass non-BJP governments.
