New Delhi: On one hand, the government is trying to increase the spread of electric vehicles in the country, while on the other hand it is taking decisions that are unfavorable to the electric vehicle industry, as a result of which electric vehicles are increasing rapidly. More expensive instead of cheaper.
According to the information received, the government’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicle (Fam-Two) subsidy for electric two-wheelers, which was Rs 15,000 per kilowatt hour, has been reduced to Rs 10,000.
The limit of subsidy, which was presently a maximum of 40 per cent of the selling price, has been reduced to 15 per cent. With this decision of the government, e-two-wheelers are expected to be expensive.
The Centre’s decision comes considering the possibility that the Rs 2,000 crore allocation to support e-two-wheelers may be used before the March 2024 deadline.
Government sources said that 80 per cent of the target of subsidizing one million e-two-wheelers has been achieved.
It was also claimed that the cut was aimed at allowing more people to benefit from the subsidy.
