Statement of G7 leaders on Russia-Ukraine war: ‘We take the Hiroshima oath as a symbol of peace’

The leaders of the ‘Group of Seven’ (G7), a group of seven developed and rich countries of the world, have issued a joint statement on the Ukraine crisis. Hitting out at Russia, the G7 leaders said they expressed their determination to stand together against the Russian military’s illegal, unjustified and unprovoked war against Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Zelensky also attended the G7 summit

Meanwhile, President Zelensky of Ukraine also arrived in Japan for this meeting. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan officially announced the visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on the morning of Saturday, May 20. The ministry said Zelensky will participate in a one-to-one session with G7 leaders on Sunday and will also be the guest of honor at a session on peace and stability with G7 leaders and people of the invited countries.

Zelensky met Modi in Hiroshima

A statement from Japan’s Foreign Ministry said that Japanese PM Kishida and the President of Ukraine will hold a bilateral meeting. Ukrainian President Zelensky also met Indian PM Modi in Japan. Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida and discussed ways to enhance “India-Japan friendship in various fields, including trade, economy and culture”.

 

 

Peace is very near: Zelensky

Amidst the ongoing war with Russia, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky reached Hiroshima, Japan on Saturday morning where he met PM Narendra Modi. During this, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was also present. Powerful leaders of the world including India and America have reached here for the G7 summit. On reaching Hiroshima, Zelensky said that ‘peace is very close’. India has refrained from supporting Ukraine in the United Nations Security Council.

Ukrainian President Zelensky said that Japan’s meeting with the G7 and allies will promote security and cooperation for our victory. Zelensky met Prime Minister Modi at around 2 pm Indian time. This meeting between the two leaders took place during the G7 Summit. Prime Minister Modi will participate in the 3rd Summit of Indo-Pacific Island Cooperation on 22 May.

Meeting of four leaders at 8 pm

The evening of the G7 summit is dedicated to Ukraine. In the presence of Zelensky, world leaders will specifically discuss the Ukraine crisis. Apart from this, Prime Minister Modi will also hold a meeting with the Quad leaders. The meeting was earlier to be held in Sydney but was canceled after Australian President Joe Biden canceled his visit. It is now believed that the quadrilateral leaders will discuss important issues tonight at around 8 pm. During this, the Russia-Ukraine war is also expected to be discussed.
