Indian shuttler HS Prannoy entered the men’s singles final of the Malaysia Masters Super 500 badminton tournament after his opponent Kristian Adinata of Indonesia retired hurt. On the other hand, Hyderabad’s PV Sindhu’s campaign came to a halt in women’s singles.

Prannoy was leading 19-17 against Adinata in the semi-finals when the Indonesian decided to give up the match. He fell dangerously on the court while trying to play the shot. After this he was thrown out of the court. Pranay will next face either Lin Chu Yi of Chinese Taipei or Weng Hong Yang of China. In women’s singles, world number five Tunjung beat world number 13 Sindhu 21-14, 21-17 in a 44-minute semi-final. Sindhu had earlier won all seven matches against Tunjung. The first game saw a thrilling contest between the two players. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu was leading 11-10 at the break. After this, the opponent took a 19-13 lead and took the game in his favour. In the second game, both the players tried to dominate each other but Sindhu was put on the backfoot against Tunjung’s aggressive rallies and shots and ended her journey at the Malaysia Open with a defeat.
