Many universities in Australia have banned the admission of students from 4 Indian states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. According to The Australian newspaper, two of Australia’s largest universities wrote to their education agents last week. In which students from Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu-Kashmir were instructed not to admit.

Australia’s home department is continuously rejecting visa applications of students from these 4 states including Kashmir. Last month, four Australian universities accused Indian students of misusing student visas. It said that people are coming to Australia for jobs rather than studying on student visas.

The University of Western Sydney said many Indian students enrolled in 2022 but left their studies midway. The university told the agents that most of the students who did so were from Punjab, Gujarat and Haryana. The ban on students from these states will continue till June.

The admission policy is being made more stringent to prevent this from happening. A Home Department report states that 1 in every 4 student visa applications from India are fraudulent. Because of this, the rejection rate of applications for study in Australia has also increased to 24.3 percent. Which is highest in last 13 years.

According to a Sydney Herald report, Australian universities are completely dependent on agents for foreign student admissions. Both the student and the university approach the agents for admission. In return, the universities pay huge commissions to the agents.

The report said that the former Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, has significantly changed the policy of foreign students working in 2022. After which the demand for student visa became intense. In fact, under the new changes, the ban on foreign students studying in Australia to work was removed. This means that now students can work as many hours as they like. However, now preparations are being made to change this policy again. The Albanian government is again going to restrict student working hours.
