Shimla, May 21 (Hindustan Times). The Queen of Hills, Shimla is once again buzzing with tourists on weekends. Tourists flock to Shimla in large numbers to get relief from the scorching heat in the plains.
About 90 percent of the rooms were booked in private hotels in the city on Saturday night. The big hotels were packed by noon, the smaller hotels were fighting for rooms till as late as eight o’clock in the evening.
All the hotels of the Himachal Government Tourism Corporation are also full of tourists. The adjacent tourist spots of Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda, Mashobara and Naldehra also attract tourists. Tourists from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh besides other states reached Shimla over the weekend.
Most tourists stay here in groups from Dastak. As a large number of tourist vehicles enter the city, almost all the parking lots here are full. At 5 pm on Saturday, the multi-storey parking lot on Circular Road was packed. After this, the tourists parked their vehicles outside the lift parking opposite Metropole Parking and Triple H Parking.
According to Shimla Police, 16,931 vehicles entered Shimla city from Shogi barrier on Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway from 8 am on Saturday to 8 am on Sunday.
Prince Kukreja, vice president of the Shimla Hoteliers’ Association, said that more than 90 percent of the rooms in the city’s hotels are booked. A large number of tourists are reaching Shimla after the heat has increased in the plains.
The temperature of Shimla is 15 to 20 degrees lower than that of plains
Shimla is very popular with tourists during the summer season due to its pleasant atmosphere. In the plains, where the mercury hovers between 37 and 42 degrees Celsius these days, Shimla is recording 22 to 25 degrees Celsius.
According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in Shimla and surrounding areas from May 22 to 24. Due to which the temperature here will drop further.
