Netflix is now charging more money from its users in the US who share their Netflix password with others. The streaming company began sharing passwords in select Latin American countries and later expanded the experiment to Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain in February. Let us tell you that nothing like this has happened in India till now. As the company is focusing on increasing its user base in the country with its ad supported plans.
Now in America, if a primary user shares the password with someone else, then he has to pay extra money. The company has said that only the family can use the Netflix account. Everyone in that household can access Netflix anywhere.
How much money to pay?
According to Netflix, users can share their Netflix account with anyone in the same household. For this, users will have to pay $ 7.99 (about Rs 661) every month. Now these prices are exclusive to the US market only and Netflix will adopt different strategies according to the market.
What is the rule for Indians?
The company’s strategy for India may be different considering the population and high smartphone adoption rate. As of now, Netflix in India does not charge for password sharing. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos also met IB minister Anurag Thakur in February. Sarandos informed the Union Minister that Indian regional content is the most watched content globally.
