Mandi, May 21 (Hindustan Times). Senior journalist and writer Hemkant Katyayan of Himachal was cremated at Hunamghat in Mandi on Sunday. His son Siddharth Katyayan cremated his father’s cremation.

Senior journalist Hemkant Katyayan passed away on Friday night due to cardiac arrest. Her last rites could not take place on Saturday as her son Siddharth was in Mumbai. Only after his son reached the mandi on Saturday night could the process of his last rites begin.

On this occasion, senior journalist Birbal Sharma said to his wife Nirmala Katyayan before taking Hemkant Katyayan’s body out of the room that – Now we are taking our friend. So much was with us. On that Nirmala Katyayan said that I will also go to crematorium, the stereotype should be broken. She joined his funeral procession and went to Hanuman Ghat and witnessed her husband’s final farewell with her own eyes.

Apart from people from different sections of the society, his colleagues from the media were also present on this occasion.
