Washington: More than two and a half years have passed since the Russia-Ukraine war. But it has not yet reached any conclusion. After the assassination of the Russian nuclear chief in Moscow on Tuesday, now the claim of killing more than 200 North Korean soldiers fighting for Ukraine for Russia has created a stir in the Kremlin. It is being claimed that about 200 North Korean soldiers fighting along with Russian forces against Ukraine have been killed or injured in this war in the Kursk border region.
A senior military official created a stir by giving this information on Tuesday. Although the official did not clearly say how many people were killed, he said that the North Korean army does not seem to be experienced in war, due to which the number of their casualties has increased. He was giving the first significant estimate about the casualties of North Korean military personnel. Several weeks ago Ukraine had said that North Korea has sent 10,000 to 12,000 soldiers to Russia for help in the war that has been going on for almost three years.
North Korean soldiers fighting Ukraine on the front foot, says White House
The White House and the Pentagon confirmed Monday that North Korean troops, mainly infantry, are fighting on the front lines in Ukraine, fighting alongside Russian units and in some cases independently around Kursk. The disclosure of the casualties comes as the Biden administration is pushing to send as much military aid as possible to Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. But a senior defense official told reporters Tuesday that the Defense Department likely won’t be able to send the rest of the Pentagon’s $5.6 billion in weapons and equipment pledged to Ukraine before Jan. 20, when Trump is sworn in.
