Russia announced that it has banned the entry of 500 US citizens into the country. These include many big personalities from former President Barack Obama to television world. Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that in view of the repeated sanctions imposed on Russia by the Biden administration, now the Putin government is also closing its doors to 500 Americans.

Significantly, in view of the Russia-Ukraine war, America is continuously including Russian companies and people in its black list to harm the Russian economy. America had banned more than 100 organizations and people associated with Russia. However, such a step was rarely seen from the Russian side.

On these steps, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that Washington should have known long ago that none of its hostile steps would go unanswered. TV hosts Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Myers are among those sanctioned by Russia. CNN anchor Erin Burnett and SMNBC presenter Joe Scarborough are also on the list.

Russia said it has also blacklisted US lawmakers and think tanks for spreading disinformation against Russia. Apart from this, the chief executives of the companies that supply arms to Ukraine have also been banned.

In the same statement, Russia said that it has not approved the consular visit of American journalist Ivan Gorshkovich. Ivan was arrested in March this year on charges of espionage. Earlier, the US had also refused to issue visas to Russian journalists and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov coming to the UN session.
