Udaipur: Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Renuka Singh Saruta has said that the role of tribal society in the independence of the country and the movements made by them should be remembered. The contribution of tribal heroes in building a new India while fighting against the tyranny of the British rule should not be forgotten.
He was speaking at the launch of Gaurav Gatha, a documentary and book on the glorious tribal culture of Wagad Pradesh at Mohanlal Sukhdia University, Udaipur on Tuesday. He said that history should be remembered and move forward with new lessons. As the chief guest, he appealed to save the natural heritage. He also considered the work plans of PM Modi and the work being done for the youth as important. Meanwhile, he also gave information about the work of the tribal ministry. Along with this, he also gave information about the contribution of education in development.
All India Urban Liaison Head of Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram Bhagwan Sahai was the Chief Guest of the event. Sahay said that we have to understand the self expressed in swaraj and freedom. He also gave information about the struggle and sacrifices made during the British Raj. In the meantime he spoke about the tribe in its history before the revolution of 1857. Along with the bravery of Chhattisgarh tribals Veer Tilka Manjhi and Birsa Munda, he also recalled the massacre at Mangarh and the sacrifice of Gobind Guru.
Vice Chancellor of Mohanlal Sukhdia University, Udaipur Professor IV Trivedi in the chair said that the contribution of tribals has been important in the freedom of the country. Through research and books, the stories of the heroic heroes and heroines of the tribe reach everyone. Meanwhile, he also informed about the work being done by Gobind Guru Tribal University for tribals.
RUSA 2.0 Research Project Chief Investigator and Function Coordinator Prof. Welcoming the guests, Seema Malik (Former Dean, Mohanlal Sukhdia University, Udaipur) apprised them about the usefulness of the research project ‘Folk Literature of Wagar Pradesh: A Map of Oral Traditions’. It was further informed that the book Gaurav Gatha of Veer Nayak Nayak of the tribe was prepared by Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts, New Delhi and Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram. It highlights the contribution of tribal heroes and heroines in various fields. Professor, Department of District Estates, Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, New Delhi. Anil Kumar congratulated all the members associated with the book and documentary. He described the work done by tribal heroes and heroines as important in bringing to the masses.
The documentary was screened at the function. The documentary, both in Hindi and English, was well received by all the guests. Principal researcher Professor Seema Malik said the documentary was prepared under the RUSA 2.0 research project ‘Folk Literature of Wagad Region: Mapping Oral Traditions’ funded by the Ministry of Education, New Delhi. It is a humble attempt to present the rich cultural and traditional heritage of the tribe on the world stage. For this, along with research for a year, the culture, lifestyle, tradition, customs, songs and music of the people of the tribal area have been recorded. A book has also been published under this project, which has been incorporated for PG students at Mohanlal Sukhdia University. The team members involved in making the documentary, Satish Acharya, Pawan Barod, Atul Dadhich were also honored at the function.
