Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced today that the Quad meeting scheduled for next week has been postponed for the time being. Australia has taken this decision due to US President Joe Biden not attending the meeting. Joe Biden is currently engaged in solving the issue of financial crisis arising out of debt in America. In such a situation, he has postponed his foreign tour next week.
Australia canceled the Quad meeting in Sydney after US President Joe Biden postponed his trip to Australia due to debt ceiling talks in Washington.
Earlier, Anthony Albanese had said that this meeting could happen even without the presence of America.
Earlier, Anthony Albanese had said that the countries involved in the quad – India, Japan and Australia can come for the meeting even without the presence of America. He said that after the cancellation of Biden’s visit, his government is talking to the Prime Ministers of Japan and India. However, President Albanese later apologized and said that he would have to move the dates for the meeting of the Quad allies. He said that the Prime Ministers of India and Japan have agreed to reschedule the meeting and hold it at an earlier date. However, the Australian Prime Minister said that his bilateral meeting with PM Modi in Australia could be held next week as well. A decision on this can be taken soon from the Indian side.
What is the program of PM Modi’s foreign tour?
Prime Minister Modi will visit Hiroshima, Japan from May 19 to 21 for the G-7 summit to be chaired by Japan. He is visiting Japan at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. During the summit, the Prime Minister will address the G-7 sessions. Some other leaders will also participate in this along with US President Biden. After this PM Modi has plans to go to Papua New Guinea.
