Punjabi University professor suspended, accused of acquiring foreign citizenship

Professor Pushpinder Singh Gill of Patiala-based Punjabi University has been suspended. He has been accused of obtaining foreign citizenship while working at the university. Professor Gill holds Canadian citizenship. The Punjab government had ordered an inquiry into the matter. He is also accused of trying to get a faculty member to serve on a post which was not actually a post by giving false information to the VC. Apart from this, he has also been accused of spreading propaganda on the basis of false facts to tarnish the image of the university.

Daljit Ami, director of the public relations department of the university, said that the investigation is going on against Professor Gill in three cases. He has been suspended on the basis of preliminary enquiry. Meanwhile, he has to report at Talwandi Sabo Guru Kashi Centre. Professor Gill has been given 15 days to present his case.
