Police found Davinder Kaur in an injured condition on the footpath. He was badly stabbed with knives. Police and paramedics started efforts to save her, but the woman died on the pavement shortly after.

Police arrested Nav Nishan Singh at a distance of about two kilometers from the spot. Investigation revealed that both were husband and wife and were separating from each other. A family dispute was going on between Nav Nishan Singh and Davinder Kaur for a long time. Both accused each other and were living separately for 6 months, after which Davinder Kaur agreed to divorce.
