India’s veteran shuttler HS Prannoy won his maiden BDWF World Tour title by defeating China’s Wang Hong Yang in three games in a thrilling final of the Malaysia Masters Super 500 badminton tournament. The 30-year-old Indian played brilliantly to register a 21-19, 13-21, 21-18 win over 34th-ranked Wang Weng of China in a 94-minute match. Prannoy also played a key role in India winning the Thomas Cup in 2022 last year. However, he has not won an individual title since winning the gold medal at the 2017 American Open.

Prannoy was on the verge of ending his title drought after reaching the final of the Swiss Open last year. He also reached the semi-finals of Malaysia and Indonesia Open. At the Malaysia Open, Prannoy defeated fifth seed Chow Tien Chen, All England champion Li Shi Feng and Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto to reach the final.
