Kanpur (Kanhapur): From the point of view of agro-meteorology, the farmer brothers should plow the field in the summer season. Plowing at such times increases soil air circulation and water absorption capacity. This information was provided by Dr. Chandrasekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), Agricultural Meteorologist. SN Sunil Pandey gave this while talking to Hindustan Samachar.
He said that farmer brothers should keep in mind that summer plowing should be done to a depth of 15 cm with the help of plough, cultivator, disc harrow, MB plough, plough, subsoiler plow and duck foot cultivator to turn the soil. .
What are the benefits of deep tillage?
The agro-meteorologist said that all the agricultural implements move up and down in the form of big clods when the farm land is deeply plowed during the hot season. During the summer season, the mounds formed by this type of tillage are gradually broken down by wind and rain, which increases the aeration and water absorption capacity of the soil. This type of tillage buries old crop residues, surface crop roots and weeds etc. under the soil, which after decomposition increases the amount of fossil and organic nutrients in the soil. This increases the fertilizing power of the soil. Along with this, the physical structure of the soil also improves.
Crop destroying elements and pests are destroyed
Dr. S. N. Pandey said that plowing the field in summer kills insects, diseases, pests and larvae. Keeping the field empty after plowing the field during summer season allows air and sunlight to enter the soil easily. Increases the amount of mineral substances in the soil. In addition, this process causes the soil structure to become granular, thereby increasing soil aeration and water holding capacity.
The crop is not affected by diseases and gives good yield. In particular, the farmer should do summer plowing in those fields in which wheat and barley crops were sown. Because nematode disease outbreaks occur in wheat and barley crops and occur in crop nodules. These lumps are underground, which come up during tillage and dry after exposure to sunlight.
Sandy and sandy soils should not be plowed in summer
While plowing the field, make sure that the clods of soil remain large while plowing. The soil should not be friable, as strong summer winds can cause soil erosion. Summer plowing should not be done in sandy and loamy soils. In rainfed areas, farmers should plow in summer with a plow turning the soil in the opposite direction of the trench. By doing this, the chances of soil being washed away with rains are reduced. Because this type of tillage rain water is absorbed by the soil and nutrients also do not go outside the field.
Deep plowing of fields in summer season is beneficial
Turning the farm soil speeds up the transmission of water, air and light into the soil. Because of this, the mineral elements in the soil make food for plant growth more easily. Tillage helps control pests and diseases in the next crop. Because the insects and diseases present in the field come to the surface of the soil and are destroyed by the bright sunlight.
In summer, bacterial activity increases in the deeply plowed soil of the fields. It is more useful for leguminous crops, as leguminous crops contain nitrogen in their roots, which is absorbed into the soil by tillage. Tilling also helps with weed control, as perennial weed seeds and roots are uprooted and destroyed by sunlight.
