The Champions Trophy is to be held in Pakistan next year. Through this tournament, Pakistan will host an ICC tournament after a long time. In such a situation, the Pakistan Cricket Board i.e. PCB is engaged in raising money for organizing the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The condition of the Pakistan Cricket Board is not hidden from anyone. This is the reason why the board is engaged in collecting money in different ways so that the Champions Trophy can be organized on time.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to sell the name of one of its historic stadiums. This stadium is none other than the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore which has a special significance in Pakistan cricket. PCB has sold the naming rights of the Gaddafi Stadium to a private bank for 5 years. This deal has been done for 1 billion Pakistani rupees. Although PCB has not yet made any official announcement regarding this deal, it is clear that now Gaddafi Stadium will also be known by the name of the bank like Karachi’s National Stadium.
This is how Lahore Stadium got its name
An insider told news agency PTI that the deal was done for one billion Pakistani rupees, while the naming rights of the Karachi stadium were sold for $450 million. Let us tell you, that the stadium in Lahore was named after Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in the year 1974. The tradition of selling naming rights of stadiums in Pakistan was started by former PCB chairman and former captain Rameez Raja. The deal for the Karachi stadium was completed during Raja’s tenure in the year 2021. This is the reason why Karachi’s famous National Stadium is now known as the National Bank Cricket Arena.
PCB is selling the names of the stadiums so that the money received in return can be used to make the country’s three main stadiums of international level by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, it is not yet clear whether the Indian team will go to Pakistan to participate in the Champions Trophy or not.
