New Delhi: The Mamata government of West Bengal has received a strong blow from the Supreme Court, it has removed the ban imposed by the Mamata government on ‘The Kerala Story’. It is well known that the Mamata government banned ‘The Kerala Story’ on May 8.
During the hearing of this case today (Thursday), the court said, ‘The law cannot be used to increase the intolerance of the people. Otherwise, every film would be the same.’
In a petition filed in court against the ban, the filmmaker said that even when ‘The Kerala Story’ (not Dhachadh) was given a ‘general certificate’, no one filed a petition against it. Nor was any constitutional appeal raised.
Last Friday, the Supreme Court sought a response from the West Bengal government and the Tamil Nadu government on a petition filed by the producer of the film ‘The Kerala Story’. P. After three days of ‘screening’, the Bengal government banned the film.
CJI D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice P.S. The Narasimha bench questioned the West Bengal government and said, ‘(that) the film is being screened in other parts of the country without any difficulty and (there) does not seem to be any reason to ban it.’
The court told West Bengal government counsel Abhishek Singhvi, ‘This film has been screened in other parts of the country, including those states which have a similar demographic structure (West Bengal). Nothing has happened that has nothing to do with the artistic value of the film that makes people dislike the film.’
