Varanasi: On Tuesday, on Ganga Dussehra, Namami Ganga members offered garlands to Mother Ganga. With full faith, members also offer bhog prasad to Mother Ganga on the day of her descent from heaven to earth, wishing for her purification, happiness and prosperity of India.

On Ganga Diwas, the members took a boat ride in the Ganges and awakened through loudspeakers the devotees taking a bath to maintain cleanliness and also performed Shramadan for cleanliness at the ghat. Meanwhile, the echo of ‘Gang sakal mud mangal moola, sab sukh karni harni sab sula’ was also heard from the ghat on the other side of the Ganga.

Namami Gange Kashi Area Coordinator Rajesh Shukla said that the glory and importance of Ganga has been described in all the scriptures like Indian scriptures, Puranas and Upanishads. Ganges water is lifeblood for agriculture and industries. It would be right to dissolve faith and tradition for the sake of humanity by abandoning hostile treatment of the life-giving Ganga and other rivers. Shivdutt Dwivedi, Bina Gupta, Pushpalata Verma, Preeti Jaiswal, Vikas Tiwari, Sonu, Kanchan Mishra, Nikki Jaiswal, Shubham Singh, Pooja Maurya etc. also joined the cleanliness awareness campaign.
