Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh police provided relief in over 51,000 cases of distress called on emergency service ‘UP-112’ during the Diwali festival, police said. Official figures showed that a majority of the 41,066 callers sought police assistance, while 1,974 reported fire and 7,147 sought medical assistance.
According to official data, a total of 1,01,805 emergency phone calls were received on ‘UP-112’ during Deepotsav on Thursday. According to the data, 51,796 of these ‘incidents’ were such that police response vehicles (PRVs) rushed to the spot for assistance. According to the data, police assistance was sought in 41,066 incidents, while 1,974 were fire-related and 7,147 were for medical emergencies.
89,297 people called on Chhoti Diwali
Additional Superintendent of Police (UP 112) Mohini Pathak said that ‘UP-112’ usually records about 30,500 incidents per day, for which PRVs are dispatched. According to her, the total number of incidents increased to 51,796 on Diwali. She said that in view of Deepotsav, ‘UP-112’ had deployed 825 communication officers, more than 6,200 PRVs, and more than 34,000 officers and employees on duty.
He said that awareness about UP-112 services has increased among citizens. According to the data, a day before, on Chhoti Diwali, ‘UP-112’ took calls from 89,297 people and PRV was dispatched in connection with 37,932 incidents.
