Omkareshwar: Six members of a Gujarat family drown, two-year-old child dies after boat capsizes in Narmada river.

Khandwa/Bhopal, May 15 (Hindustan Times). A boat carrying pilgrims from Gujarat overturned in the Narmada river on Monday evening due to storm and rain at Omkareshwar, a famous pilgrimage site in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Six people of the same family who were sitting in this boat fell into the water. Four of them were safely pulled out by boatmen present at the spot, while a two-year-old child died. At the same time, the head of the family is missing, which is being searched for.

According to the information, Karthik Beladia, an officer of the Gujarat Police Department, came to Madhya Pradesh in a private vehicle with his family three days ago. These people first came to Indore and then went to Ujjain to see Mahakal. After this he reached Omkareshwar on Monday. After visiting the world famous Jyotirlinga Lord Omkareshwar temple here, everyone started boating in Narmada river at around 4.30 pm. Meanwhile a heavy storm started, due to which the boat overturned due to loss of balance and all on board fell into the deep water of the river.

Boatmen and divers present at the spot immediately pulled out the drowning people in Narmada. Four of them are safe, while a two-year-old child was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where Dr. Ravi Verma declared Daksha brought dead. Meanwhile, the head of the family, Karthik Belladia, is missing. A diving team searched for him till evening, but could not find him. Rescue operations were called off due to bad weather and darkness. They will be searched again on Tuesday morning.

Sukhabhai, the driver who brought the family from Gujarat, said that all the devotees are residents of Bhavnagar. Before Gujarat we came to Indore. After this he went to Ujjain and had darshan of Mahakal. Then came back to Indore. In the morning left Indore and reached Omkareshwar, after visiting there went for a boat ride. Four people have been rescued safely. Including Rashmin (58) son Himmat Lal Vyas, Nikunj (32) son Rashmin Vyas, Wani (31) wife Nikunj Vyas and Dinkal wife Karthik Beldia. At the same time, two-year-old Daksha (2) son Nikunj Vyas died, while Karthik Beladia is missing.
