The agency had arrested Deepak Ranga from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur on January 25 this year, who was the main shooter in the May 2022 RPG attack on the Punjab Police’s intelligence headquarters in Mohali. Ranga, arrested in case 37/2022/NIA/DLI, is also a close associate of Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Lakhbir Singh Sandhu alias Landa and Pakistan-based gangster-turned-terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda.
Involved in the May 2022 RPG attack in Mohali
Besides being involved in the RPG attack in Mohali in May 2022, Deepak was also involved in several other terrorist and criminal activities, including violent murders. He is actively receiving terror funds and logistic support from Rinda and Landa. The NIA registered the case on September 20, 2022, taking suo motu cognizance of the matter. The investigating agency filed the FIR after it emerged that foreign-based terror outfits and terrorist elements were working in close coordination with leaders and members of organized crime syndicates to carry out targeted killings and violent criminal acts in the northern states of the country.
The investigation also revealed that terrorist hardware like arms, ammunition is smuggled through a network of terrorist-gangster-drug smugglers across the border through extensive inter-state networks of gun runners, illegal arms and ammunition manufacturers and suppliers. Used in smuggling explosives, IEDs etc.
