A new wave of Corona has arrived in China. To avoid the XBB variant of Corona, China is rapidly engaged in making the vaccine. Due to the new wave, there may be more than 65 million cases of corona every week in China by the end of June. This claim was made by Chinese epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan at the ongoing 2023 Greater Bay Area Science Forum in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
Zhong Nanshan said that China is working on 2 new vaccines to deal with this variant. Nanshan explains that XBB is a variant of Omicron. Experts were already expecting a small wave of corona in late April and early May. According to estimates, by the end of May, about 4 crore cases will be reported every week from this variant in China. After this, cases will be on peak in June.
According to the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the infection rate of the XBB mutant increased from 0.2% in February to 74.4% in late April and then to 83.6% in early May. Nanshan said- This new wave of corona will be more dangerous than the wave that came at the end of last year and the infection will also spread rapidly. In view of this, the government has approved 2 new vaccines. These will be available in the market soon. Apart from this, 3-4 more vaccines are being tested.
According to experts, China is ahead of other countries in making more effective vaccines. On the other hand, an advisory group of WHO has advised all countries to prepare Corona’s booster vaccine according to the XBB variant. The WHO said that the new vaccine should be designed to produce antibodies to counter the XBB.1.5 and XBB.1.16 variants.
Wang Guangfa, an expert at Peking University First Hospital, said that there is nothing much to worry about this movement. Its symptoms will be mild and the number of patients in hospitals will not increase much. However, people who have weak immunity or who are already in contact with any disease need to be careful.
