Varanasi : Counting of votes has started at Pahadia Mandi, the counting place for the urban body elections, amid tight security on Saturday. BJP’s mayoral candidate Ashok Tiwari is leading in the trends of the first round of counting. Congress candidate Anil Srivastava is on the second number. There are a total of 11 candidates for the post of mayor in Kashi.

BJP mayoral candidate took lead in counting of postal ballots at the beginning of counting. Prior to this, Ashok Tiwari sought the blessings of victory after appearing in the court of Kotwal Baba Kalbhairav ​​of Kashi. In the counting of votes, EVMs of mayor and councilor have been opened simultaneously on fifty tables in hall number one and two of Mandi. The votes of the councilor on one side and the mayor’s on the other are being counted on the same table. 100 EVMs will open simultaneously. Total 06 lakh 49 thousand 915 votes lying in 2650 EVMs are to be counted. The counting of votes will be completed in a total of 27 rounds. Tight security arrangements have been made around the counting venue and at all vulnerable places in the district. Police is stationed everywhere at the counting site. The administration has made elaborate arrangements for the counting of votes to be completed peacefully.
