A US court has allowed the extradition of 26/11 Mumbai attack accused Tahvoor Hussain Rana to India. This is a big victory for India. Rana is a Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin. Indian officials asked Rana to investigate the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Officials said that Rana was also involved in that attack. NIA is probing the matter.

India was expecting this decision. According to sources, a month ago information was received that India was preparing for extradition. Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists attacked Mumbai in 2008. India had made a complaint against Tahvoor Rana on 10 June 2020. India had sought the provisional arrest of the 62-year-old accused. After India’s request, the Biden government supported it and later approved it.

US court issued 48-page order

The case was heard in the US District Court for the Central District of California. US Magistrate Justice Jacqueline Chuljian said the evidence presented in court was fully worthy of consideration. He said that whatever evidence has been given by India has been studied closely. Only after that the decision was taken. On Wednesday, the court issued a 48-page order. The court accepted that Rana’s extradition was justified. The reasons presented by India suggest that there is a need to interrogate Rana.

Rana is an accomplice of David Coleman Headley

When the case was being heard in the court, the lawyers of the Joe Biden government argued that Tahvoor Rana knew that his childhood friend Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley was a member of the terrorist organization Lashkar. Even after that he remained with Headley. Rana made many efforts to hide his activities. Apart from this, he also supports the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Rana’s lawyer refused

The court was also told that Tahvoor Rana knew everything about Headley’s movements and meetings. The US government claimed before the court that Rana was also a part of the conspiracy. On the other hand, Rana’s lawyer has consistently denied the allegations and defended his client. Rana’s lawyer opposed the extradition.
