MP: Five more arrested including female gangster in conversion case

Shahdol/Bhopal, May 15 (Hindustan Times). Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol Kotwali police arrested five people two days ago in a case of religious conversion and registered a case against a total of 12 people. Police have arrested five more people including the female kingpin in this case. All those arrested were produced in court on Monday, from where they were sent to jail.

Police Monica Vijay (70) wife deceased. Vijay Kumar, a resident of Kamani, District Nagpur, Maharashtra has been described as the kingpin. On Saturday, people gathered at the woman’s house in Kharkhala for religious conversion. Along with this woman, Thanuram Yadav (49), a resident of Piparia Shahdol, has also been arrested on Sunday night and another accused, John Urav (43), a resident of Champa, Chhattisgarh, has been arrested on Monday morning.

It may be noted that Bajrang Dal and residents of the area reported the conversion to the police in Gharaula Mohalla of Ward No. 18 of Shahdol on Saturday evening. Following information, the police raided the place where the prayer meeting was also going on and seized around 100 boxes containing books related to Christianity. Some people present there recorded a statement before the police that they were being enticed to convert. Meanwhile, five people were arrested. After this, five more people have been arrested till Monday.

Shahdol Superintendent of Police Kumar Prateek said that a case has been registered against 12 people in connection with religious conversion. Out of which 10 have been arrested and sent to jail. At present, the search for two people, including a woman, is on. The entire matter is being seriously investigated.
