Reshuffle in Modi Cabinet: On Thursday (May 18), there has been a sudden reshuffle in the Union Cabinet. First Kiren Rijiju’s ministry and now Minister of State for Law SP Singh Baghel’s department has been reshuffled. Now he has been made Minister of State in the Ministry of Health. Because Arjun Ram Meghwal has been made Minister of State with independent charge in the Ministry of Law. That is why now one more state minister has been transferred from there.
Earlier, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal was made Law Minister (Independent Charge) in place of Kiren Rijiju. Rijiju will now take charge of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Rijiju became the Law Minister on July 7, 2021, who was at loggerheads with the Supreme Court over judicial appointments. After the resignation of then senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, Sports Minister and Minister of State for Minority Affairs Rijiju got the charge.
As Law Minister, Rijiju was at the forefront of the government in criticizing the collegium system of appointing Supreme Court and High Court judges. Describing this system as separate from the Constitution of India, he said that it does not have the support of the people of the country. His recent comments about some retired judges being part of an anti-India gang also drew strong reactions.
Kiren Rijiju tweeted, “Congratulations to my colleague Arjun Ram Meghwal on his new charge as Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge). I am sure that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they will work with dedication to provide better justice to the common citizens.
