Lucknow By-elections are to be held on two Legislative Council (MLC) seats in Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party (SP) Legislative Council candidates, former MLCs Ramjatan Rajbhar and Ramkaran Nirmal filed their nominations for the by-elections to both the seats on Thursday. Both the candidates filed their nomination papers in the presence of SP leaders and workers. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and National President Akhilesh Yadav was absent.

The SP has tried to help the vote bank of the Rajbhar caste, which belongs to the extremely backward caste of Purvanchal, by fielding former MLC Ramjatan Rajbhar, a resident of Mau. Akhilesh has fielded Ramkaran Nirmal, a resident of Kaushambi district and outgoing president of Lohia Vahini, in the MLC election. He belongs to Dhobi community. Through Nirmal, the SP leadership has adopted a strategy to keep the youth connected with them.

It may be mentioned that by-elections are to be held on two Legislative Council (MLC) seats in Uttar Pradesh. Despite the lack of numbers, SP president Akhilesh Yadav has fielded party candidates in this election. The Samajwadi Party’s strategy is not to allow BJP candidates to be elected unopposed, thereby creating obstruction.

It may be noted that BJP has fielded Padmasen Chaudhary and Manvendra Singh as MLC candidates. Both the candidates reached the Vidhan Sabha on Thursday morning and registered their candidature. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, both Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya, Brajesh Pathak and many big party leaders and workers were present.
