Lucknow’s people should use cloth bags only: Additional Municipal Commissioner

Lucknow Additional Municipal Commissioner of Lucknow Municipal Corporation and in-charge of Swachh Bharat Mission Avanindra Kumar appealed not to use plastic to save the environment. The Additional Municipal Commissioner told Hindustan News that the people of Lucknow should not use plastic bags keeping the environment in mind. Use a cloth bag instead.

The Additional Municipal Commissioner said on Monday that the corporation workers had started a campaign to stop the use of plastic around the mandi on Sitapur Road. As part of the single use plastic ban campaign, street vendors, fruit vendors were urged to stay away from plastic.

The municipal corporation workers with banners in their hands reached around Poornia Fruit Market located at Naveen Galla Mandi, Sitapur Road and explained the problems related to single use plastic ban to the track shopkeepers. Shoppers at the track were informed about the damage caused by plastic through pictures made on banners. A stall was also set up during the campaign which lasted from morning to afternoon.

Avanindra Kumar said that this campaign is conducted from time to time in Lucknow, so that there is awareness among the people. Due to awareness many shopkeepers have now started using cloth bags. Shopkeepers who are using cloth bags need not say anything. On the contrary, they themselves are supporting the municipality in making others aware.
