Assam News: The Assam government will now offer Voluntary Retirement (VRS) to obese police officers and employees. The Assam Police Department has decided to conduct a fitness survey of all its employees. Under this, body mass index (BMI) of police officers and employees will be checked and those who are overweight will be given VRS. Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh has given this information. GP Singh said that this decision has been taken after the order of Chief Minister Himanta Vishwas Sharma.
Director General of Police GP Singh said, “We are giving time till August 15 to all officers and police, after which we will start BMI estimation in the next 15 days.” Since Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has a household account, he himself has taken care of it. GP Singh also said that the health of all Assam Police will be checked.
After the Chief Minister’s order, Assam’s Director General of Police was the first to get his BMI checked on Tuesday. Those assessed in the obese category will be given three months to lose weight. After this they will be given the option of voluntary retirement. But it does not include people suffering from diseases like thyroid, explained GP Singh.
We are giving three months time. All the people have to get fit by 15th August. After that body mass index survey will be done in 15 days. Survey. Those whose body mass index is above 30 will get three more months till November to lose weight,” said the Director General of Police. It has also been warned that if these people fail to lose weight even after this, they may be fired from the job.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma announced on April 30 that policemen who are obese or addicted to alcohol will be given VRS. Not only this, VRS will also be given to people involved in corruption cases. According to PTI, Assam Police has prepared a list of 650 policemen. This includes policemen who are addicted to alcohol, obese and unfit for duty.
