New Delhi, 22 May (Hindustan Times). Legendary batsman Virat Kohli continued his scintillating form and scored an unbeaten 101 off 61 balls against Gujarat Titans on Sunday to become the record for most centuries in the Indian Premier League.

It was Kohli’s seventh century in the IPL, making him the batsman with most hundreds in the history of the league. In his last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad last Thursday, he scored a century to equal West Indies great Chris Gayle’s record of six IPL hundreds.

Also Kohli became only the third batsman to score back-to-back centuries in IPL (101 not out against Gujarat and 100 against Hyderabad). Earlier this feat was done by Shikhar Dhawan for Delhi Capitals in 2020 and Jos Buttler for Rajasthan Royals last season.

Kohli’s record-breaking feat helped Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) post a challenging 197 for 5 against Gujarat Titans in 20 overs. However, with the help of a sensational century from Shubman Gill (104 not out from 52 balls), Gujarat chased down the target in 19.1 overs with six wickets in hand. With this defeat, RCB was out of the season. RCB’s team finished sixth in the points table with 14 points.
