Chief Minister of Karnataka: The Congress high command has not yet reached any decision regarding the new Chief Minister in Karnataka. According to Congress state in-charge Randeep Surjewala, discussions are going on among the party’s top leadership for a new CM and an announcement will be made in a day or two. But according to sources, most of the newly elected MLAs of the party are in favor of handing over the reins of Karnataka to Siddaramaiah, but state Congress president DK Shivakumar is not ready to accept anything less than the post of Chief Minister.
State Congress President DK Shivakumar has once again made it clear that he will not accept the post of Deputy CM or any ministerial post and will remain in Delhi until the issue is resolved.
According to sources, the Congress high command has also introduced a 50:50 formula for the post of CM in Karnataka. Under this formula, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar will sit on the chief minister’s chair together for two and a half years. Giving information about this formula, sources said that under this Siddaramaiah will become the Chief Minister for the first two and a half years. Meanwhile, Sivakumar will take over as Deputy CM. Along with this, he will also become the president of Karnataka Congress till the Lok Sabha elections. Then after two and a half years, DK Shivakumar will sit on the CM’s chair.

While another source said that DK Shivakumar is firm on the Chief Minister’s chair. Regarding this formula of 50:50, he has made a condition that he will stay on the chief minister’s chair for the first two and a half years. Then the high command can hand over the reins of the state to Siddaramaiah if it wants. Shivakumar has once again reiterated that he will not accept anything less than the post of chief minister. He will neither hold the post of Deputy CM nor hold any ministerial post in the Siddaramaiah government nor take any step against the party’s interest.
Earlier, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and State Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar met Rahul Gandhi separately on Wednesday. The meeting of the two leaders with Rahul Gandhi at 10 Janpath, the residence of Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, is being seen as an attempt to reach an agreement on the Chief Minister’s post. However, according to sources, Rahul Gandhi has made it clear to Mallikarjun Kharge that the Gandhi family will not suggest any name to him for the post of Chief Minister.
No one is being considered for the post of CM
Meanwhile, former president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee G Parameshwara presented his claim and said that he is ready to take over the post of Chief Minister if the party high command gives him the responsibility. However, sources also clarified that the party high command is not considering any third name for the post.
Notably, the Congress won 135 seats in the May 10 elections to the 224-member assembly in the state, while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (Secular) faced a crushing defeat. defeat BJP got 66 seats and JDS got 19 seats respectively.
