Oil prices have seen volatility since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. Many countries were outraged and banned Russia. In such a situation, India started buying oil from Russia at a cheap price. However, due to this, India has faced repeated questions. The European Union’s foreign policy chief has once again raised questions against India. India responded strongly, with EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell demanding action on India’s refined product, which is produced from Russian oil. In response to this, India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar advised Joseph that he should pay attention to the rules of the Council of the European Union. “Look at the rules of the Council of the European Union, Russian crude oil has been diverted in many ways to a third country and is no longer considered Russian,” Jaishankar said. Also he insisted to see Council Regulation 833/2014.
Why the call to action?
Joseph Borrell said that India is selling Russia’s oil to Europe by converting it into refined fuel i.e. petrol-diesel. That is why EU should take action against India. Joseph said that on one hand the Eastern countries are increasing pressure on Russia’s energy sector by acting quickly, on the other hand India is working to buy Russian oil. The European Union’s foreign policy chief says there is no complaint about India buying oil from Russia, but the EU should take action against products made from Russian oil in India.
