Chennai Super Kings became champions for the fifth time after defeating Gujarat in IPL. Last season, this team could not even reach the playoffs and once again performed brilliantly and was successful in winning the title. Chennai defeated defending champions Gujarat in the final yesterday. After the match, Dhoni once again won the hearts of cricket lovers by calling the hero of the match Jadeja and the retired Rayudu to receive the trophy.
Dhoni did not go alone to collect the IPL trophy
Ravindra Jadeja made Chennai the champion by hitting a six and a four off the last two balls. Also this match was Ambati Rayudu’s last IPL match. Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement from IPL before the final. In this match, Rayudu scored 19 runs in 8 balls while Jadeja returned unbeaten after scoring 15 runs in 6 balls. After the match, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has once again shown why he is different from the rest of the cricketers. After winning the Chennai match, when Dhoni was called on stage to receive the IPL trophy, he did not reach alone to receive the trophy. Rayudu and Jadeja also came on stage with Dhoni to receive the trophy.
Dhoni beat Jadeja and Rayudu to lift the trophy
Dhoni placed Rayudu in the middle with the trophy while he stood on the edge with Jadeja. Dhoni has done many such things during his captaincy, which later became a trend in the Indian cricket team. He used to give the trophy to the young player as soon as he won the trophy. Dhoni himself once said that cricket is a team game and the captain gets separate footage first, so he hands over the trophy to the team as the whole team has won the title together.
IPL final was played on reserve day
The final match of IPL 2023 was to be played on 28 May. However, due to rain, it had to be shifted to the reserve day. Rain also played spoilsport in yesterday’s match. Chennai won the toss and elected to bowl first and Gujarat Titans scored 214 runs for four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Due to rain during Chennai’s innings, the match had to be stopped in the very first over. When the match started, Chennai were given a target of 171 runs to win in 15 overs.
