Port Moresby : The meeting of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation in Papua New Guinea is proving to be a unique initiative from India for cooperation with the island countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a strong step of friendship towards these countries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Papua New Guinea after attending G-7 and Quad meetings in Japan. Here he participated in the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Co-operation (FIPIC), an organization formed for cooperation among the island countries of the Indo-Pacific region.
During this, Modi met the leaders of many countries of the Pacific region. India is writing a new chapter of its relations between those countries. During the meeting with the Governor-General of Papua New Guinea, Sir Bob Dade, the two leaders underlined the importance of the development partnership in India-Papua New Guinea relations. On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi released the Tok Pisin translation of the book ‘Thirukkural’ in Papua New Guinea.
On the sidelines of the FIPIC Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka. He tweeted that the relationship between India and Fiji has stood the test of time. In the coming times, both the countries will work together to further strengthen these relations.
During this, the Prime Minister met with the Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Manasseh Sogaware. Modi termed the meeting as wonderful. During his discussions with Samoa Prime Minister Fiamae Naomi Matafa, Modi stressed on boosting bilateral ties. The two countries also discussed ways to expand relations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that talks are on from Japan to Papua New Guinea. Nice to see Cook Islands PM Mark Brown at the conference again. Modi met Henry Poona, Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum. Prime Minister Modi said that he had a wonderful conversation today with the President of the Republic of Kiribati, Taneti Mamau.
He further said that we discussed various topics with the aim of enhancing the relations between the two nations. Apart from this, Prime Minister Modi also met Minister of the Republic of Marshall Islands, Kitlang Kabua.
