Sydney, 23 May (Hindustan). Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is welcomed like a rockstar in the world, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said here on Tuesday. Wherever he goes, he gets unprecedented respect. Albanese welcomed Prime Minister Modi by saying this in front of about 21,000 people at the Kudos Bank Arena, one of the largest indoor stadiums in the city. Anthony compared him to American singer Bruce Springsteen.
Albanese said – ‘The last time I saw Bruce Springsteen on this stage. Even then he did not get the respect that Prime Minister Modi has got today. Prime Minister Modi is the boss. He thanked his “dear friend” Modi for “bringing the spirit of the world’s largest democracy to Australia”. He said Prime Minister Modi helped make our democracy stronger and more inclusive.
In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Anthony Albanese officially renamed Harris Park (a road) as ‘Little India’ at a special community event here. Harris Park is a center in western Sydney where the Indian community celebrates festivals and events such as Diwali and Australia Day.
Prime Minister Modi has tweeted – I had the opportunity to welcome Prime Minister Albanese on Indian soil in Ahmedabad. He is with me here today in the program of laying the foundation stone of ‘Little India’.
Albanese announced the naming of Harris Park as ‘Little India’. Modi thanked Albanese for this special gesture. He said – Thank you, my friend Anthony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this is the recognition given to the Indian community by the society of Australia. For this, the Premier of New South Wales, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor and Councilors of the City of Parramatta deserve congratulations.
It is noteworthy that the first proposal for naming this park as Little India was prepared in 2015.
According to the City of Parramatta website, Harris Park is a thriving, dynamic, multicultural hub. Harris Park has over 20 eateries on Wigram, Marion and Station Streets. There are shops selling colorful sarees, shiny bangles and Indian spices. It feels like you are in Mumbai here.
