Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced new initiatives at the FIPIC (Forum on India-Pacific Islands Cooperation) summit. PM Modi told the leaders of 14 Pacific Island countries that India is ready to share its capabilities with them without any hesitation.

Super specialty cardiology hospital to open in Fiji

PM Modi announced new development initiatives in sectors such as healthcare, cyberspace and small and medium enterprises. PM Modi said India has decided to set up a super-speciality cardiology hospital in Fiji and will help set up dialysis units in all 14 Pacific island countries. He also announced that a sea ambulance would be provided to all 14 Pacific Island countries.

It will be equipped with modern facilities

PM Modi said, ‘To promote health services in the Pacific region, we have decided to set up a super specialty cardiology hospital in Fiji. This hospital will be equipped with trained staff, modern facilities and infrastructure.

The entire cost of the project will be borne by the Government of India: PM Modi

The PM said that the Government of India will bear the entire cost of this mega greenfield project. The PM has also proposed to open a Jan Aushadhi Kendra for the region. The Prime Minister also proposed to bring similar Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the region. The PM said, “More than 1800 high-quality generic medicines are being made available to people at affordable prices through the Jan Aushadhi Yojana in India. For example, anti-diabetic medicine is available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras at a discount of up to 90% compared to market prices.

He added, “Other medicines are also available at a discount of 60 per cent to 90 per cent of the market price. I propose to bring similar Jan Aushadhi Kendras in your countries. He further said, “We have proposed to set up yoga centers in your countries to promote its benefits.”

Fiji to get 24×7 emergency helpline

The Prime Minister announced that the Center of Excellence for IT in Papua New Guinea would be upgraded and transformed into a “Regional Center for Information Technology and Cyber ​​Security”. “A 24×7 emergency helpline will be set up for citizens of Fiji and we will be happy to help set up a similar facility in all PICs (Pacific Island Countries).”

The Prime Minister also announced that 1000 ITEC training opportunities will be provided over the next five years under the “Sagar Amrit Scholarship” scheme for Pacific Island countries. The PM said that India has decided to organize the Jaipur Foot Camp in Papua New Guinea this year.
