India’s challenges, concerns and benchmarks are global: Dr. Jitendra Singh

Srinagar: Addressing the inaugural session of the third meeting of the G-20 Working Group on Tourism at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that India has challenges, concerns and parameters. Today, when we meet at the sights of Srinagar, we feel deeply that we are all a part of a global world and India under the Prime Ministership of Narendra Modi is very conscious of this.

The Minister said that the significance of holding the G20 event in Srinagar is the amalgamation of our traditional heritage and state-of-the-art technology with the most modern infrastructure. Kashmir has a wide range of handicrafts and handicrafts from carpets, embroidery and shawls. On the other hand we have the most advanced infrastructure projects. We have the highest railway bridge in the world which is 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower. It is situated on the River Chenab which is one of the largest rivers in India. He said that Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir also has Asia’s longest bi-directional road tunnel, known as Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Tunnel.

Speaking at the event, Union Tourism Minister GK Reddy said that he was happy to see that the Tourism Working Group was making progress in the right direction. I am confident that the joint efforts of all G20 members, invited countries and international organizations will result in inclusive, action-oriented and decisive guidelines for the tourism industry. The Union Tourism Minister said that he is sure that wherever the delegates go across the country, Indians will treat them like family. I wish you enjoy your stay and return to India again and again with your families, friends and citizens of your country.

India’s G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, addressing the opening session, said that whatever recommendations emerge from the meeting, will figure prominently in the final leaders’ dialogue, which will be issued after the leaders’ meeting on 9-10. September He said this is important because tourism is a great means of development and job creation. Kant said that the five priority areas identified are green tourism, digitalisation, skill development, tourism MSME and destination management and commendable progress has been made in this regard in previous meetings. Kant also said that the working group meeting in Srinagar had the highest number of delegates present among all the working group meetings.

Harshvardhan Shringla, chief coordinator of India’s G20 chairmanship, said the country has held 118 meetings under its chairmanship so far. Srinagar is one of the most prestigious tourist destinations, we are truly proud to be here. He hoped that the meeting would encourage more tourists to visit this important place. He added that this would bring much-needed happiness to local traders, artisans who depend on tourism.
