Know the complete equation

According to the rules of the T20 World Cup, the first semi-final will be between the top team of Group-2 and the second-ranked team of Group-1. The second semi-final will be between the top team of Group-1 and the second-ranked team of Group-2. England is already the second-ranked team of Group-2. On the other hand, if India defeats Australia in today’s match and tops the Group-1 table with 6 points, then it will face England in the semi-final. Even if this match gets washed out due to rain, Team India will remain the table topper with 5 points. In this situation, India will face England, the second-ranked team in Group-2. This match will be held in Guyana.

What will happen if India loses the match?

If India loses the match against Australia, both teams will have 4 points each. Then we will have to wait till the result of the match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh to know which team will go to the semi-finals from Group-2. If Afghanistan wins that match, it will also have four points. In this situation, the top-2 teams with better net run rate among India, Australia and Afghanistan will go to the semi-finals. If Afghanistan loses the match, then India and Australia will go to the semi-finals. On the other hand, if the Australian team loses the Super-8 match against India and the Afghanistan team defeats Bangladesh in the Super-8 match on Tuesday 25 June, then the Kangaroo team will be out of the T20 World Cup 2024.
