New Delhi: India has strongly protested against the allegations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the Canadian government. India has expressed this protest by summoning the Canadian High Commissioner. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has confirmed this.

Randhir Jaiswal said, “We summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission yesterday, and a diplomatic note was handed over in the context of the proceedings of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in Ottawa on October 29, 2024.” Canada had alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was behind the conspiracy to target Sikh separatists in Canada.

Bilateral relations will be seriously affected.

Jaiswal said, “The note stated that the Government of India strongly condemns the absurd and baseless references made by Deputy Minister David Morrison about the Union Home Minister of India before the Committee.” The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said, “Such irresponsible actions will have a serious impact on bilateral relations.” According to a Reuters report, Canada had alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was behind the conspiracy to target Sikh separatists on Canada’s soil.

Canada gave information to America.

Canada’s Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison told the parliamentary panel that he had heard the Washington Post say Amit Shah was behind these conspiracies. On Wednesday, the US reacted to Canada’s allegations against Amit Shah, calling it “worrisome”. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said, “The allegations made by the Canadian government are troubling and we will continue to engage with the Canadian government about those allegations.”

Conspiracy to defame India

In the national capital, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the revelation that top officials of the Canadian government deliberately leaked baseless allegations to the international media as part of a deliberate strategy to defame India and influence other countries only confirms the view that the Indian government has been holding for a long time about the political agenda and behavior pattern of the current Canadian government.

Jaiswal said India on Friday summoned a representative of the Canadian High Commission and lodged a strong protest over the “absurd and baseless” comments of the Canadian deputy minister about Home Minister Shah. Addressing members of Parliament, Morrison did not say how Canada came to know about Shah’s alleged involvement.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also made the allegation.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said a year ago that Ottawa had credible evidence that Indian government agents were involved in the murder of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June 2023. At the same time, Indian officials have consistently denied that Canada has provided any evidence, calling these allegations absurd.
