Incident in IBM company
A man named Ian Clifford is a senior IT employee at IBM, a major tech company. His salary then was in five digits. Lived a life of luxury.. He fell ill in the month of September 2008.. Since then he is on sick leave. He was shown many hospitals, but did not get cured.. But in 2013, he expressed his anger on not being given proper benefits by the company.. After complaining to the government there, IBM company made a comprehensive settlement with him. As per the laws of that country, he has promised that he will not be fired even though he is not working in the company.. Despite being on sick leave, he is getting paid 75% of the salary package of £72,037, which That is 54 thousand pounds and 55.31 lakhs in Indian currency. It has been announced that this payment will be made till their retirement age i.e. 65 years. When they complained to the British government in 2013… IBM had to face the wrath of government officials. But then to avoid that, the said employee was paid 8,685 pounds nine lakhs in Indian currency.
Ian Clifford complains again
But Ian complains that the cost of living in London has increased drastically in the last ten years and the salary offered to him by the IBM company is too low. In addition, they demanded an increase in wages as per the plan agreed with them. He wrote a letter to the company in this regard. But after not getting any response from the company, he approached the British Employment Tribunal in February 2022. He accused the IBM company of discriminating against his illness.. But the court expressed displeasure over the petition filed by Ian. IBM’s counsel urged the court, ‘Apart from better treatment, he was also given an economic package for the maintenance of the family.’ The lawyer argued in the court that as per British labor laws, the increment is for active employees and not inactive employees. But given rising prices, the package offered to the employee under a contract signed less than ten years ago may not be sufficient, IBM’s lawyer said. However, the lawyer revealed that the IBM company has been quite lenient in considering the employee’s illness. The lawyer on behalf of IBM argued that it makes no sense to allege that the IBM company looked after his illness. However, after hearing the arguments, the court dismissed Ian’s plea.
