Haryana won the title of Sub-Junior Women’s National Championship

Rourkela, May 15 (Hindustan Times). Defending champion Hockey Haryana has won the title of 13th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2023. Whereas, Hockey Jharkhand stood second. Hockey Association of Odisha finished third in the tournament by defeating Uttar Pradesh Hockey at the world-class Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium. 28 teams participated in this 11-day tournament.

In the title match played on Sunday evening, Hockey Haryana won the trophy by defeating Hockey Jharkhand 3-2 in the final. The Haryana team remained invincible in the tournament. Sangeeta Kumari (7′) and Ankita Minj (27′) scored for Jharkhand, while Bhavya (25′, 58′) scored twice and Meenakshi (36′) scored for Haryana.

Earlier in the day, Hockey Association of Odisha beat Uttar Pradesh Hockey 4-3 in the penalty shootout to clinch the third position. Both the teams were tied 1-1 till the stipulated time in this tough match. Rashmi Raikwar (6′) scored the first goal of the match for Uttar Pradesh, although Sonali Ekka (43′) converted a penalty corner to give Odisha a 1-1 draw.

In the penalty shoot-out, Kullu saved two out of five goals for Odisha and captain Tanuja Toppo, Binti Minj, Ameesha Ekka and Sonali Ekka scored to give their team a 4-3 win in the shootout.
