Chennai : The Gujarat Titans team, captained by Hardik Pandya, lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 15 runs in the first qualifier match. Batting first in the match, four-time champions Chennai Super Kings scored 172 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. In response, the Gujarat team was all out for 157 runs in 20 overs. After the match, Gujarat captain Hardik Pandya praised Dhoni’s captaincy and also told where his team went wrong.

After the match, Hardik Pandya praised CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and said that this is the beauty of Dhoni. With his mind and the way he uses the bowlers, he makes sure you feel like he is adding 10 more runs to his total. We kept losing wickets and he (Dhoni) kept making sure he used the right bowlers. Pandya said that I am happy for him. If we win the next match, it will be really nice to play against him (Dhoni) again on Sunday.

We made some basic mistakes: On the performance of the bowlers in the match, Hardik Pandya said that I think we were very accurate with the ball, but we made some basic mistakes. This cost us the match. With the kind of bowlers we had, I thought we gave away 15 extra runs. However, we did many things right. We bowled a few soft balls in between. We were executing our plans and then in the middle we gave away a few runs. He said that I do not think we need to pay much attention to this. We have to play again (qualifier-2) after two days. We have to play one more match to reach the final. Just focus on the things that we’ve done really well this season.

The captain of Gujarat said that regret is not good in life, we expected that dew would come, it did not come. We gave away 15 runs extra and we didn’t do the right thing in both the departments. We will play the match again after two days and hope to do well.

It is noteworthy that in the first qualifier match, the Chennai team batting first scored 172 runs for seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. For Chennai, opener Rituraj Gaikwad played an excellent inning of 60 runs in 44 balls. In response, the Gujarat team, chasing the target of 173 runs, got all out for 157 runs in 20 overs. Gujarat lost the match by 15 runs. With this, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team Chennai Super Kings reached the final of the IPL for a record 10th time. Even after this defeat from Chennai, Gujarat will get a chance to go to the final. Whichever team wins the Eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Supergiants, Gujarat will play in Qualifier 2. The final match of IPL will be played in Ahmedabad on 28 May.
