Dharamshala, May 22 (Hindustan Times). Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said the state government is promoting water, adventure, religious and health tourism in Kangra district and about Rs 3,000 crore will be spent to develop related infrastructure. He said that air connectivity is essential to develop Kangra district as a tourism capital and expansion of Kangra airport and construction of heliports at Rakkar and Palampur are underway to achieve this goal.
He said that the government is working strongly on the restoration of traditional tourist spots and directions have also been given to identify trekking routes to promote adventure tourism. The Chief Minister gave this information while reviewing the tourism and other major projects implemented to develop Kangra district as the tourism capital of the state at Dharamshala on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister directed to complete the project within the time limit and expedite approvals of FCA (Forest Conservation Act) and FRA (Forest Rights Act). The chief minister said that the length of the runway of Kangra airport is planned to be 1900 meters in the first phase and 3010 meters in the second phase, which will be suitable for the operation of A-320 type aircraft.
He said the total cost of acquisition for the first phase is Rs. 572.07 crores and the SIA report is received on May 9, 2023. He said that sites have been identified for development of heliports at Rakkar and Palampur. The estimated cost of Rakkar Heliport is Rs. 6.66 crore and Palampur Heliport Rs. 9 crores. To promote religious tourism, the Chief Minister directed to mark land for a heliport in Jwalaji.
Adequate funds will be made available for all development works, he said. He said that Mataur-Shimla and Pathankot-Mandi highways will be made four lanes with an average width of five meters for convenience.
Chief Minister said that Dharamshala estimated Rs. An international convention center is proposed at a cost of 130 crores and will promote convention tourism in Kangra district. He said that 2.19 hectares of land has been identified for the project. The Chief Minister said that 5.75 hectares of land has been identified for the proposed wellness resort and high end international fountain at Nagrota and an artificial lake will also be constructed there. He said there is also a proposal to build a golf course at the heritage village Gurli, which will be developed on about 318 kanals of land.
The Chief Minister said that two hectares of land has been identified for ice skating rink and roller skating rink at Sakoh. An additional 12 kanals of land has been identified to make the project viable and a detailed project report is being prepared by the Asian Development Bank. A tourist village is proposed to be developed at Narghota and land has been identified for the same. Himuda owns 25 hectares of land where the tourist village is proposed to be built. There is also a proposal to acquire private land near the Himuda land, which has also been identified.
The chief minister said that land in Manjha has been identified and transferred to the tourism department for the construction of a destination resort near Palampur. Beautification schemes are being implemented in Palampur and Nagarota Bhagwan towns keeping in view the development. Under beautification of Palampur city, construction of multilevel parking near HRTC bus stand, one parking near old vegetable market, storage and rain water harvesting facilities, tourist reception center, total Rs. Beautification and upgradation of roads and streets at a cost of 58 crores. , Newgal Cafe renovation and landscape enhancement works. He said that the beautification works of Old Bus Stand, Gandhi Maidan, Narada Sarada Mandir, Mataur Garden and Baroh have been included under Nagarota Bagwan Beautification Project.
The Chief Minister also discussed the plan of Zoological Park in Bankhandi area of Dehra Assembly Constituency. Built on 195 hectares of land, the park aims to provide the best experience to the visitors. It is expected that the monorail will feature wild animals and will be housed in an open enclosure. Permission for the park is expected from the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) by June. Its first phase development will cost around Rs. 260 crore will be spent.
