The central government has increased the production estimates of major food grains crops for the current crop year. Amid apprehensions of a fall in production due to bad weather in February and March, the government has increased the estimate of food grains production in the country by 2.1 percent to 330.53 lakh tonnes for July 2022 to June 2023. Which indicates record production so far. According to the government’s third estimate, wheat production will be 112.74 million tonnes. In the second estimate, it was seen at 112.18 million tonnes. Last year, wheat production in the country was recorded at 107.74 million tonnes. Till May 24, FCI had procured 26.17 million tonnes of wheat. Which was less than the government’s estimated purchase of 34.51 million tonnes. The government had increased the production estimate of Kharif rice by two million tonnes to 110 million tonnes. Which was earlier 108 million tonnes. Last year also 110 million tonnes of rice was produced in the country. Rice production was found in all seasons in the country. It is estimated to be 554 crore tonnes. In coarse cereals, the maize crop is estimated to be 35.91 million tonnes. Which was seen in the second round estimate of 34.61 million tonnes. Whereas last year the production was recorded at 33.73 million tonnes. It is believed that the maize crop has benefited from the rains in March. The total production of coarse cereals is estimated to be 303 million tonnes. Which was expected to be Rs 29.75 crore in the second estimate.
