In a statement, he said that this is being done to recognize the rich and diverse culture of New York. “The proposal to allow the New York Legislature to take a break on Lunar New Year and Diwali could be approved before the end of the legislative session,” he said.

The session of the New York Legislative Assembly will continue till June 8. It is believed that by the end of the session, the proposal of ‘government holiday on Diwali’ can be approved. According to media reports, this proposal has been named Diwali Day Act, under which Diwali holiday will be declared as the 12th public holiday in New York.
