Kolkata: BSF has seized six gold biscuits weighing 1217 grams at border post Solak on Indo-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas district. The estimated value of the seized gold biscuits is 71 lakh 95 thousand 814 rupees. Smugglers were trying to bring this gold from Bangladesh to India.

The BSF said on Monday that Solak jawans received information that gold was about to pass through their area. After some time, the jawans saw two suspects standing with bikes on the road coming towards the border. The jawans immediately reached them and interrogated and searched them, during which the two men got a chance and escaped on a bike, leaving a plastic bag at the spot.

The jawans searched the plastic bag and found six gold biscuits from it. The personnel then conducted an intensive search in the surrounding area but nothing else was found. The absconding smugglers have been identified as Amal Haldar and Amit Gain. He is a resident of Lakshmipur village in the district.

An FIR has been lodged against the fugitive smugglers at the Baghdad Police Station and the seized goods have been handed over to the Customs Office Baghdad.
