G7 summit starts today in Hiroshima, Japan, know what issues will be discussed

[ad_1]

The leaders of the world’s 7 most powerful democracies will meet this weekend in Hiroshima, the site of the World War II nuclear attack. This meeting is known as G7. Amidst the threat of nuclear attack during the war in Ukraine, Hiroshima is a symbolic symbol of the destruction of the world. It is believed that in this meeting there can be a serious discussion on issues like increasing aggression of China, Russia and North Korea, oil and gas prices, global warming.

Questions are being raised on the relevance of G7

Leaders from outside the G7 are invited to increase cooperation with allies and partner countries. G7 country participation in global economic activity has declined to 30 percent from nearly 50 percent four decades ago. This has greatly benefited developing economies such as China, India and Brazil. This is the reason why the relevance of the G7 and its role in leading the world economy is now being questioned.

What are the main issues of the G7?

It is expected that the leaders of the member countries will condemn Russia for the Ukraine war in the G-7 meeting. He will also pledge to continue his support for Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will participate in the G7 session via video conference. Apart from this, Chinese aggression against Taiwan will be discussed. Any member country can condemn China. None of them recognize the independent nation of Taiwan. Apart from this, the G7 countries can announce to help the Global South country against China and Russia. It may also announce more assistance in health, food security and infrastructure to develop closer ties with the friendly country.

Why was Hiroshima chosen for the G7?

The whole world is currently facing a serious security crisis. Russia’s war in Ukraine and North Korea’s assertiveness have raised the risk of nuclear attack. Meanwhile, the G7 meeting is taking place in a city that has been hit by a nuclear attack. The Peace Memorial Museum of Hiroshima is not far from the meeting place. There are more than a dozen clocks on display, so far many have stopped at 8.16. On August 6, 1945, America attacked Hiroshima at 8.16 am. The initial explosion killed 70,000 people and 10,000 workers were left to slowly burn or die.

What is G7 Convention?

The G7 is an informal grouping of 7 major industrialized nations. This includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It is chaired by 7 member states in rotation. Japan is chairing the G7 this year. It includes 2 representatives from the European Union. As per long-standing tradition, the G7 meeting is attended by heads of state and heads of many non-member countries and international organizations. At this time, the leaders of this country keep discussing many issues including economic policy, security, climate change, energy and gender.

Leaders of which country will come in the meeting?

Leaders of Australia, Brazil, Comoros, Cook Islands, India, Indonesia, South Korea and Vietnam have been invited to this year’s G7 meeting. The invitation builds on Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s strategy to reach out to developing countries in the Global South and the Americas. Leaders of the United Nations, the International Energy Agency, the International Monetary Fund, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the World Bank, the World Health Organization and the World Trade Organization have been invited to the meeting.
