G20 Civil20: Echoing Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam slogan ‘Walking towards inclusion’, Meenakshi Lekhi appeals to youth

New Delhi: Due to its chairmanship of the G-20, India is organizing several events across the country this year. Keeping this in mind, a ‘Walk Towards Inclusion’ was organized parallel to the G20 Summit today under the Working Committee on ‘Diversity, Inclusion, Mutual Respect’ of the Official Working Group of the G20 (G20 Summit India). The event was organized by the International Center for Cultural Studies, Bharati Vidya Bhavan and Karma Foundation with the message of building an inclusive society.

The resounding slogan of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumpakam’

The program was attended by various sections of the society who committed to imbibe the universal spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumpakam’ in their lives. The Chief Guest of the program was Union Minister of State Meenakshi Lekhi. Lekhi was welcomed by Professor Shashi Bala, Jagran New Media CEO Bharat Gupta, Saurabh Goyal, Jyoti Shah Mishra, Payal Kaul and Dhwani Jain.

Meenakshi Lekhi emphasizes inclusive traditions

Meenakshi Lekhi while addressing the program highlighted the inclusive traditions of the country. He quoted Ashtavakar (who translated verses from the Gita despite being disabled) as saying that we should all focus on abilities rather than disabilities. Lekhi encouraged the youth to imbibe principles, values ​​and ethics in life and also recited a poem by Rabindranath Tagore.

After this, presiding over the programme, Lekhi inaugurated the ‘Walking Towards Inclusion’ march by displaying the flag. Vedic verses depicting the inclusive civilization of Indian culture were specially engraved on this flag. At the end of the walk, the “Wall of Great Ideas” was inaugurated, on which all the members endorsed the campaign by writing their signatures.

Role of women at workplace is important: Saurabh Goyal

The rally was preceded by an insightful panel discussion with industry veterans who shared their experiences in the field of diversity and inclusion. Saurabh Goyal, Executive Chairman, Havells India Limited, chaired the session and set the context for the discussion from the perspective of the corporate world. Workplaces where women are better represented in leadership roles increase profitability, she said.

Attention should be given to literacy and awareness: Bharat Gupta

Jagran New Media CEO Bharat Gupta also addressed the event. He described the state of the media industry and DEI. He said that education, geography, language and gender equality are still major challenges and this gap needs to be bridged, especially at a time when more than 65 percent of India’s population is under the age of 35. Bharat Gupta said that literacy, awareness and policy reforms are three key areas that need attention.
